Elmsdale, Nova Scotia, March 20, 2025 — The federal government announced support for Mass Timber Company (MTC), a new manufacturing business that includes partnership between Nova Scotian sawmills, We’koqma’q L’nue’Kati and other Indigenous Partners, to build a $215M facility in Elmsdale.
The federal government is investing in MTC to help them construct a large-scale mass timber industrial plant. Once built, MTC will be the first fully integrated mass timber manufacturer in Atlantic Canada, helping to grow the region’s offsite construction industry and improving access to housing in Nova Scotia.
MTC has been conditionally approved for $10 million in federal funding, pending due diligence and a final agreement. Once complete, the facility will provide over 120 new local jobs in East Hants and revolutionize the use of eastern spruce lumber in manufacturing.
