Hydrant flushing is conducted to improve water quality by removing naturally occurring minerals that build up on pipe walls over time. Any sediment is mainly comprised of very fine minerals, predominantly iron and manganese.
East Hants Water Utility completes flushing in the spring and the fall. We thank customers for their patience and understanding while this work is completed.
During flushing periods, water customers may experience a temporary reduction in water pressure and/or water discolouration. Should this occur, customers are asked to run their water for a short period of time. If the discolouration of the water continues, please call the Water Utility:
Discoloured water will generally settle after flows return to normal rates. Although discoloured water may look displeasing it does not pose a health risk.
