Equitable East Hants Plan

Plan Information

In September 2022, the Province of Nova Scotia enacted the “Dismantling Racism and Hate Act”, which provides strategic direction for addressing systemic racism, hate and inequity within the Provincial Government.

By April 1, 2025 Municipalities had to have a plan created that will be reviewed every three years, similar to Accessibility plans. Our plan represents East Hants’ commitment to advancing equity and combating racism.

The following steps were taken when developing the Equitable East Hants plan

  • Self-Assessment & Internal Reflection
  • Alignment with Council’s Strategic Goals
  • East Hants Staff Engagement
  • Community Engagement
  • Ongoing Engagement & Future Actions

These steps are explained in detail in the plan.

East Hants has made significant strides in fostering an inclusive and equitable community through a number of programs and initiatives. Examples of some of these initiatives include:

  • Accessibility improvements
  • Equipment loan programs
  • Inclusive lessons

The progress made in the community has been detailed in the Equitable East Hants plan.

East Hants has identified three priority areas to move our communities through this journey:

  • Equity and Anti-Racism in Service Delivery
  • Equity and Anti-Racism Policy Review
  • Equity and Anti-Racism Training and Education
