Casual Aquatics Positions



Location: East Hants Aquatic Centre, Elmsdale, NS

The East Hants Aquatic Centre, is an inclusive and fully accessible aquatics facility featuring lap pool, leisure pool, lazy river, hot tub, waterslide and climbing wall. This state-of-the-art facility provides East Hants and surrounding areas with a diverse variety of aquatic programming and other recreation-based activities.

We are accepting resumes into a candidate pool for positions on our Aquatics team. Positions include Assistant Lifeguard/Swim Instructor, Swim Instructor and Lifeguard and those interested in teaching or examining our leadership programs. All positions are subject to child abuse registry and criminal records checks.

 

Assistant Lifeguard/Instructors have completed the initial courses in their Lifeguard certifications and work with and support the team that operates the East Hants Aquatic Centre while gaining valuable hands-on, on-the-job experience.

Assistant Lifeguard/Instructors have the following qualifications:

  • Bronze Cross and Intermediate Workplace First Aid with CPR Level C
  • Lifesaving Swim Instructor, or willingness to obtain within 6 months of hire
  • Willingness to obtain National Lifeguard or other certifications
  • Comfortable working in a busy, customer service-oriented, team environment

 

Aquatics Instructors are responsible for instructing classes in a safe, fun, and professional manner, according to the standards of the Lifesaving Society of Canada and the East Hants Aquatic Centre. Instructor responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Completing long-term lesson plans
  • Maintaining accurate training records
  • Managing the process for regular feedback to students, including mid-term and final reports

Aquatics Instructors must have the following certifications:

  • Lifesaving Swim Instructor
  • National Lifeguard or Bronze Cross and Intermediate Workplace First Aid with CPR Level C

 

Lifeguards are responsible for performing lifeguarding duties and ensuring the safety and supervision of patrons. In addition to having the qualifications for Assistant Lifeguard/Instructors and Aquatics Instructors, Lifeguard candidates have the following qualifications:

  • National Lifeguard with Intermediate Workplace First Aid with CPR Level C
  • Lifesaving Swim Instructor, within 6 months of hire, and a willingness to instruct lessons

Rate of Pay:

Assistant Lifeguard/Instructor $15.20/hour
Aquatics Instructor $18.50/hour
Lifeguard (Evenings/weekends) $17.50/hour
