Making East Hants Accessible
In May 2021 Council approved the accessibility plan – Accessible East Hants. This plan addresses accessibility related to municipal buildings, services, buildings and infrastructure. The Nova Scotia Accessibility Act requires the plan be reviewed and updated every three years.

Plan Goals & Commitments
To construct and maintain municipal infrastructure and buildings that meet the needs of the people within our community and visitors to our community, of all ages and abilities. We will also encourage citizens and the business community to make other public and private spaces accessible.
The Municipality of East Hants commits to supporting people with disabilities in finding meaningful employment and to making our employment practices and workplaces accessible for new and current employees of all ages and abilities.

This website meets the latest Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG). WCAG 2.1 Level AA.

- Information is organized with clear headings, making it easier to process the information and for screen readers
- Planning applications, bylaws and policies are all searchable
We will ensure that people of all ages and abilities have equitable access to services delivered by the Municipality of East Hants. This includes ensuring that there are policies, procedures and tools to promote the accessible delivery of services.
The East Hants Aquatic Centre offers Inclusion lessons. These are for children who require extra support to participate in lessons. Through the intake process, the aquatics team determines the best support and level for the participant. Learn more here.
We will work towards providing or supporting accessible transportation options for people of all ages and abilities in East Hants.
The East Hants Community Rider is a cost-effective, community transportation service for everyone.
