The East Hants Official Community Plan directs land use, development and community design. These documents – the Municipal Planning Strategy, the Land Use Bylaw and the Subdivision Bylaw – determine how East Hants will grow and change. The Plan determines the quality of life and the quality of place in East Hants.
The Official Community Plan was last comprehensively reviewed in 2016. Amendments and edits have taken place since then, but as East Hants has grown and changed new land use issues have arisen. The Community Plan needs to be reviewed and revised to address these issues.
Community consultation is a crucial piece of developing land use planning policies. It helps East Hants Council to make informed land use decisions about the future of their communities. Consultation builds knowledge and awareness among residents and interest holder groups.
East Hants has sought active engagement from residents and property owners through visioning meetings, surveys, and interest holder meetings. This information has been combined into the “What We Heard Report”. A set of land use objectives and principles will be developed from the feedback contained within the report.
Community engagement will continue throughout the planning process through community meetings and social media posts. The next set of community meetings are expected to be held late fall 2026.
